Oh yeah baby. A lovely Motives Cosmetics Beauty Consultant gave me a couple of freebies and I am here to share my HONEST views. Plus she has given a 10% discount on all there products and a 15% off Motives Maven sculpt series and perfecting face primer for ALL YOU GUYS. So first things first.
The Sculpt series. Everyones on this contouring thing nowa days . Having rounded cheeks myself I don’t mind creating a little cheekbone action. So I have been testing out this palette for a few weeks now. Trying it in all different ways.
I think it’s important to say what make up tools I have found most effective. The beauty blender is the supreme champion for this product, failing that some good old fashioned make-up sponges. Next I found my bare minerals perfecting face brush very useful ;it’s a stiff short haired brush, it looks like a stippling brush but not as hard. I used different sized synthetic brushes for the actual application all were good. Mac duo fibre…… not so good.
First I applied the Motives Perfecting Face Primer, all over the face. It has no fragrance and easily glides on. leaving a smooth texture to the skin. I have very large open pores and I find it hard to find a primer that evens these out, so this primer didn’t quite do it for me, (but I am yet to find one that does) but it was a nice finish very easy to work with.
Next I applied the contour to the parts of my face which I wanted to create more depth i.e under my cheekbones and jaw line, then I placed the highlight to brighten up certain area’s i.e under the eyes and centre of the forehead. I looked a little bit like a funky tiger but I feel I could rock this look pre blending.
I used the Motives brush that came with the palette to apply the contour and another synthetic brush to apply the highlight, this was the easy part. then I blended away using my damp beauty blender. I started with the contour dabbing away and then used my other beauty blender to blend out the highlight. I also used my bare Minerals brush to really blend it out. It does take a little time, but I was really pleased with the results. I have cheekbones!!!
I love it. It was Super Frustrating because I am NOT A PHOTOGRAPHER! This definitely looked better in real life. although I think you can see the effect it gives. This is just the sculpt palette, with no foundation. That’s all you need, but if you’re like me and like a full coverage effect (although I think it’s more a psychological need than a actual one) I tried this with the foundation on top.
To do this I used my regular foundation, Estee Lauder Double Wear Light Stay-In-Place, sparingly. Using my beauty blender I gently dabbed it on so as not to move or remove the careful contouring underneath. This is a much heavier look, I prefer it as I have a lot of redness to my skin and I feel more comfortable like this, but the contour alone s enough.
The third way I used this palette was how I got taught at make up school, which is apply your foundation first and then contour. It’s the “express way” of doing it. For this I mainly concentrated on underneath my cheekbones and my jaw line, and added the highlight underneath my eye’s. It’s quick fast and effective if you don’t have time to go all out.
I really like this product, it covers a large range of skin tones which is fantastic, if you are really dark or super fair this palette may not be right for you, but certainly if you are olive skinned, or Black (fair-medium), you would do well to use this product.
It definitely takes a bit of time and patience but that goes with any contouring product out there, it’s all about the blending boys and girls.
Just so I don’t leave you guys hanging here is the finished result taken on my iPhone from my instagram….
